Why pressure washing is forbidden on asphalt
Asphalt shingles have a ceramic granule layer bonded to a fiberglass mat with asphalt. Pressure washing (over 500 PSI) strips the granules, exposing the asphalt to UV and shortening the roof's life by 20-40 percent in a single cleaning. Any quote that mentions pressure washing on an asphalt roof is the wrong installer. The correct method is soft wash: low pressure (under 200 PSI) plus a sodium hypochlorite-based chemistry that kills the moss biologically without abrasive force.
